Eating local, healthy, fresh and organic has been my family motto for some time now. This is how we have been doing it for the past year or two:
1. Participating in our local, organic CSA Program. This is the second year we have participated in a local CSA ( Community Supported Agriculture) program. We are receiving fresh, organic, and local fruit every other week in exchange for prepurchased CSA shares.
2. Purchase and grow local organic herbs and vegetables. I am growing pots of greek oregano, chives, mint, tomatoes, and peppers. I also have cucumbers, parsley and gourmet lettuce that I started from seeds. I I also scout out farmers' markets for special items like beets, green beans, and non-gmo corn on the cob. Purchasing organic veggie boxes from our local health food store has been a wonderful option for us too.
3. Local farmers. We are blessed to know several organic farmers. They supply us with organic grass-fed or naturally raised beef, chicken, pork and lamb. We also purchase cage-free eggs, raw milk, and cheese.
How about you? Have you supported your local farmers this summer?

I'm doing my best...It is a most tasty time of the year!!!
