I was tagged for a book meme by Jean , who by the way has a wonderful blog site.
Here it is:
1) Which book do you irrationally cringe away from reading, despite seeing only positive reviews?
Books by Father Andrew Greeley.
2)
If you could bring three characters to life for a social event
(afternoon tea, a night of clubbing, perhaps a world cruise), who would
they be and what would the event be?
I would like like to spend an afternoon at tea, or walking in a garden with the Holy Family.
3)
(Borrowing shamelessly from the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde):
you are told you can’t die until you read the most boring novel on the
planet. While this immortality is great for awhile, eventually you
realize it’s past time to die. Which book would you expect to get you a
nice grave?
Probably a novel where the characters are superficial, and spend their lives getting botox treatments, plastic surgery, and going to night clubs in search of happiness.
4)
Come on, we’ve all been there. Which book have you pretended, or at
least hinted, that you’ve read, when in fact you’ve been nowhere near
it?
I don't think I have ever done this.
5)
You’re interviewing for the post of Official Book Advisor to some VIP
(who’s not a big reader). What’s the first book you’d recommend and why? (If you feel like you’d have to know the person, go ahead and personalize the VIP).
I would recommend reading the Holy Bible; as it all begins there, and they would have much to inspire them.
6)
A good fairy comes and grants you one wish: you will have perfect
reading comprehension in the foreign language of your choice. Which
language do you go with?
Italian. I would love to know what the Italians were saying to my husband and I when we were lost in Rome 18 years ago. There was a lot of waving of hands and pointing, but being the ignorant Americans we didn't have a clue what was being said to us. I think that they were trying to help.
7)
A mischievous fairy comes and says that you must choose one book that
you will reread once a year for the rest of your life (you can read
other books as well). Which book would you pick?
The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder. This is a favorite of mine from childhood, and I pretty much do this anyway.
8.
What’s one bookish thing you ‘discovered’ from book blogging (maybe a
new genre, or author, or new appreciation for cover art-anything)?
That so many bloggers are also authors. They feature books written by them on their blogs- I think that this is very clever. It's good business for them, and I find many interesting books to read that way.
9)
That good fairy is back for one final visit. Now, she’s granting you
your dream library! Describe it. Is everything leather bound? Is it
full of first edition hardcovers? Pristine trade paperbacks? Perhaps a
few favorite authors have inscribed their works? Go ahead-let your imagination run free.
I would love to have a dual library- a sun room for warm weather, and a cozy room with a fireplace in the cold winter months.
During the warmer months, I would read in the sun room or directly outdoors. There would be a rose garden just outside the windows with the sound of birds sweetly singing. The air would feel delightful. There wouldn't be any distractions like bees, mosquitos, wasps, flies, or the sound of the telephone ringing. Everyone I know would realize that I am reading;and why would they ever want to disturb me during during this precious time?
I would have a cold glass of lemonade or purified water to refresh me. Fresh strawberries and purple grapes would be readily available. My family would be gone for many hours; searching lovingly for brand new leather bound books for me to read.
My next door neighbor would be playing the violin. He and his wife; simply for my pleasure would also alternate with the flute, harp, or cello.
On cold, wintry days I would be snuggled in a wing back chair, nestled with a good book; my feet propped up close to a crackling fire. In the morning I would sip aromatic coffee, and in the afternoon hot tea with scones. I would be reading the entire collection of Jane Austen.
I suddenly hear a loud screeching noise that jerks me from my cozy winter wonderland. What is that sound? How can I stop it? I then realize that it is an alarm clock...my children appear quickly at my bedside eager for their breakfast. Ah, real life takes over. Such is life.
